Getting psyched for Spring Thaw! Can’t wait to fin

Getting psyched for Spring Thaw! Can’t wait to find some whitewater on the river 💦 Prepping for a trip is all about balancing adrenaline and being prepared. Here are 5 items to consider and make sure your next adventure is safe and comfortable:
1. PFD and Helmet:
Don’t just grab any life jacket; you need a Coast Guard-approved Type III designed specifically for whitewater. It should be snug enough that a friend can’t pull it up over your ears. Similarly, a helmet is essential for protecting your head against rocks and rogue paddles.
2. Strategic Footwear:
You need shoes that stay attached to your feet if you fall in and provide grip on slippery river rocks.
3. Moisture-wicking Clothing Daywear:
Stick to synthetic, moisture-wicking fabrics (polyester, nylon) or wool. They dry fast and keep you insulated.
Cold Protection: If the water is glacial or the weather is brisk, consider a splash jacket or a wetsuit.
4. Reliable Sun & Eye Protection
Sunglasses, retention straps and sunscreen.
5. Secure Dry Storage
Everything not strapped down or in a waterproof dry bag is a potential loss. Use a roll-top dry bag for your phone, keys, and a “dry-land” change of clothes. Ensure your dry bag is clipped to the raft’s frame or floor line. A floating bag is no help if it’s three miles downstream!
